Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris born October 20th 1964) is an American politician and attorney who is the 49th and current vice-president of the United States. She is also the first female vice-president and highest-ranking female official in U.S. History, as also the first African American and second Asian American vice president. She is a member and former US senator representing California. Harris was born in Oakland and attended Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Then she was recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was appointed district attorney for San Francisco. In 2010 Harris was appointed Attorney General of California. Harris was elected again in 2014. Harris was the junior United States senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sánchez in the 2016 Senate elections, becoming the second African American woman, and the first South Asian American, to serve as a senator in the United States Senate. Harris was a senator and campaigned for reforms to healthcare as well as federal cannabis de-scheduling a pathway to citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented as well as the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons and progressive tax reform. Her pointed questioning of Trump officials during Senate hearings earned her national attention, which included the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, who was charged with sexual assault.
